Protein Coffee – why it’s better than your average latte.

In honour of our Endurance Week Edition of the newsletter we encourage you to try our brand new Protein Coffee – a trifecta of improved energy, performance and burn!

The performance benefits of pre-exercise caffeine consumption are well documented. Caffeine has been shown to enhance physical performance and mental focus, while also reducing the the symptoms of fatigue. Recently studies have also suggested that caffeine may increase the breakdown and release of fat. Too much caffeine can over stress your adrenal glands – negatively impacting sleep and cortisol levels in your body. In general, 3-4 mg of caffeine per kilogram of body weight is optimal (a typical cup of coffee has about 100mg of caffeine) and generally it’s best to avoid caffeine after 2pm to avoid interference with your sleep. However listen to your body and see what works best for you.

One of the downsides of coffee is that the quick energy boost can often be followed by a crash. Enter coconut oil. This healthy fat provides sustained energy, supports hormonal function, and improves cognitive function. Adding in coconut oil to your shot of espresso slows the release of energy, so you get a steady, prolonged boost rather that a quick high.

Finally, pre-workout protein boost provides branch chain amino acids that help fuel your muscles during exercise and increase fat burn during high intensity training. Taken after a workout, it can promote recovery and muscle synthesis.
